Atletico Madrid drawing up shortlist to replace Julian Alvarez
Jan 23, 2026

Despite being under contract until 2030, Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez continues to be linked with a move away from the club. The Argentine international has reportedly attracted interest from several top European sides, including Barcelona, Chelsea, and most recently, Arsenal.

According to Marca, Sporting Director Mateu Alemany is actively working on strengthening the attacking line for the upcoming summer transfer window. The future of Atletico's forward department appears fluid: alongside the persistent speculation surrounding Alvarez, there is also uncertainty over Antoine Griezmann, who may consider ending his top-level career with a move to Major League Soccer. In contrast, striker Alexander Sorloth has recently expressed his desire to remain at the club.

While Atletico Madrid are expected to make every effort to retain Julian Alvarez, the consistent transfer links
have prompted the club to proactively assess the market. They have begun identifying potential replacements to
ensure readiness in case a key attacking position becomes vacant.

Atletico Madrid Eye Goncalo Ramos as Summer Target

According to reports from the Spanish capital, Atletico Madrid have included Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos on their shortlist for a potential summer transfer. The 24-year-old Paris Saint-Germain forward is highly rated within the club, and Sporting Director Mateu Alemany is aware that he must initiate contact soon to lay the groundwork for a move.

Ramos Seeking More Minutes
Despite making 28 appearances across all competitions this season and contributing 10 goals and an assist, Ramos has been limited to just over 1,000 minutes of playing time. Only 10 of those outings have been starts, with none coming in the Champions League. With fierce competition for places at PSG, he has often been a secondary option. The prospect of more regular first-team football at this stage of his career could be a significant attraction.

Having won the Champions League last season, Ramos has now secured every major trophy available in Paris. His current contract with the French champions runs until 2028.
