Former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has revealed that he wanted 4 top Premier League players whilst in charge.

Frank, who replaced Postecoglou as head coach last summer, was sacked on Wednesday. This came after a winless start to 2026 in the Premier League and with the club sat in 16th place in what has now become a relegation battle for the side.

Postecoglou was talking on the Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast after the news broke in an interview which made headlines as the Australian ripped apart the club who let him go after he lifted the Europa League.

One topic he touched upon was transfers and revealed that he was chasing 4 Premier League stars, all of which made moves to bigger clubs last summer.

“At the end of my first year, when we finished fifth - for me, OK, how do you go from fifth to really challenging? Well, we had to sign Premier League-ready players.

“But finishing fifth that year didn’t get us Champions League, we didn’t have the money. So we ended up signing Dom Solanke - I was absolutely keen on him, I really liked him - then three teenagers.

“I was looking at Pedro (Neto), (Bryan) Mbeumo and (Antoine) Semenyo at the time, Marc Guehi, because I said if we’re going to go from fifth to there, that’s what the other big clubs would do in that moment.”

Mbeumo moved from Brentford to Manchester United, Geuhi and Semenyo switched to Manchester City and Neto went to Chelsea. Four targets who could have transformed Spurs before Postecoglou was ruthlessly let go.
